Preserving the Legacy of Officer Larry D. Minard, Sr.
01. Meet the Minard's Family
Larry met his sweetheart, Karen Valien, at Tech High School, and they married in 1958.
Larry had five children: Charles and Claudia Minard, Carol, Charlotte, and Larry Jr.
If he were here today, Larry would be surrounded by 13 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. There’s no doubt he would have been an incredible grandfather to all of them.
02. Professional Journey
Larry attended Sherman Elementary School, from which he graduated and later went on to Technical High School, graduating in 1957.
In late 1958, the couple moved to Long Beach, California, so Larry could pursue his Naval career. During his time in the Navy, Larry traveled to Japan, Thailand, and the Philippines. He served as a Naval Reservist for six years.
Larry joined the Omaha Police Department in 1962–1963, where he served for seven years. During his time with the department, he had two more children (double-check names to avoid repetition with previous list). The family always lived in north Omaha, and Larry worked where he lived, so many people knew him. Omaha was still a growing city in the 1960s and 1970s.
03. Legacy Of The Soul
Larry met his untimely death on August 17, 1970, while responding to a call at 28th and Ohio Street regarding a woman screaming. He left behind his wife and five children.
Larry was just 29 years old and was laid to rest on his 30th birthday.

Moments We Cherish
He also loved his family. He was a momma's boy and would go to his sister's house every night before his shift, kiss her on the eyelids, and tell her he loved her.
He would do the same for all his kids. He was a family man.
